Robert Golob

GEN-I, President of the Management Board

Robert Golob is one of the leading experts on electrical energy in Slovenia. His work focuses on the operation and deregulation of the power system and restructuring of the electrical energy markets.

He earned his university diploma degree at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, in 1989, where he also obtained his master of science and doctoral degrees in 1992 and 1994 respectively. After completing his PhD, he lectured at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and in 1997 became lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana. He was named head of the EU negotiation team for energy related matters in 1998, and worked from 1999 to 2002 as Slovenian state secretary for Energy, where he participated in writing important state laws on the subject.

He has authored numerous scientific publications from the fields of energy markets, optimization of energy sources, and power system planning. He has led both research and industry projects in the electrical energy field, and founded the company Istrabenz-Gorenje Ltd. (presently IGES).

Mr. Golob is the Chairman of the Board of GEN-I, the leading Slovenian electrical energy trader and provider. The company is present on numerous international electrical energy and gas markets, and enjoys fast growth. Its 16 subsidiaries operate in more than 20 countries mainly in Southern and Eastern Europe.
